Coal Avenue SE transects the southern portion of Albuquerque, New Mexico’s Huning Highland Historic District, extending 6.5 blocks westward from the east end of the Coal Avenue Viaduct just west of Broadway Boulevard SE to Locust Street SE.

At least 12 of the 20 properties encountered within the Coal Avenue SE corridor contribute to the historical significance of the Huning Highland Historic District. Additionally, one of these properties is a series of structures that have been deemed significant historic resources on their own merit. Six properties within the Coal Avenue SE corridor do not appear to contribute to the historical significance of the HHHD. Of course, this statement is subject to change as more data is gathered on these properties.
